Wine Tasting at Ashling Park
Ashling Park is an award winning vineyard a 5 minute drive from Oakwood West. They have a fabulous array of wines, winning the award for best Pinot Noir in the UK in 2024. The wine is made from the fruit of 20,000 vines, a mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Menuier, the trio that are used for Champagne. Wines have been made on the site for just 10 years, and yet the critics can't get enough of their wonderful array. Sussex Wines are firmly on the international map winning awards and receiving Protected Designation of Origin thanks to their unique qualities. A tasting tour will start with an informative walk around the vineyard and then time in the wine experience room to try 5 of their best wines. There's also a well regarded restaurant on site, using the best of the local produce served in the beautiful ambience of their Napa valley style building.
Chichester Harbour Conservancy Boat Tour
There's no better way to experience the National Landscape of Chichester Harbour than with a tour by boat run by those who know it best, the Chichester Harbour Conservancy. The harbour is rich with natural wonders, including a colony of seals and tens of thousands of birds. On the solar powered boat you'll be guided to the most interesting things to see for the season and learn about the unique heritage of the area, which has a long and varied history, from the Bronze Age monuments that sit atop the hills to Roman conquests, and Napoleonic coastal fortifications. Sailing is a popular pastime here and the water will be peppered with quaint sailing boats in the summer. Everyone will enjoy a boat tour, just being out on the water in the sunshine is a fabulous way to spend some time!
Two Local Pubs
We are rather spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat. From your cottage you can choose to walk out through the woods and across the fields to The Horse and Groom pub at East Ashling. It's a 200 year old pub, welcoming and warm inside, listed in the Good Beer Guide. Excellent customer service and scrumptious food come as standard here. With beautiful decor and a cosy feel it's a fab place for dinner or lunch.
Stroll in the opposite direction down a quiet country lane to The Richmond Arms, another gem of a pub in a beautiful village setting next to a duck pond. Independently owned and showcasing the best of local produce, it's open all day Tues - Saturday with locally famous Sunday lunches too.

The Cottages
The four cottages at Oakwood West are designed for family fun. Everything has been designed for you to have a stress free, happy family holiday. There's wi-fi, smart TV's, and board games in every cottage, with Bluetooth sound systems (except Meadow Hide). Flexible sleeping arrangements, certain rooms have super king size beds that can convert into twin beds. For the little ones, extra futons and cots are available on request. The kitchens are social spaces with mod cons and tables with space for your family to all gather around and share food. Cook up a storm, order in shopping and takeaways... there are loads of delicious options to choose from. Beautiful bedrooms give everyone a space to get some chill out time, before heading out to explore the fabulous countryside & culture of Sussex. Each cottage has a different style of garden and all have a hot tub and decked area. Lucky's Stable has the largest garden with an outdoor fireplace and built in BBQ.
